Meet Tony
Anthony "Tony" Ricardo is a former teacher, father of three, grandfather of 8 and commercial artist at Ricardo Designs, the business he founded in 1992. His creative designs in the sign industry have been featured in prestigious trade publications and have garnered him numerous international accolades. Ironically, Tony's hand-painted School "Mascots" can be seen in hundreds of school gyms across Florida and Georgia.
Born in Louisianna in 1959 to a Cuban/American father and a Japanese mother, he relocated to Jacksonville Florida in 1960 when his father secured a position in Air Traffic Control. Growing up in San Mateo, he attended St. Patrick's Elementary School and later graduated from Bishop Kenny High School in 1977. During his time at Kenny, he participated in ROTC for four years, and his passion for aviation led him to acquire his pilot's license at the age of 17. Continuing his education at Jacksonville University, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Art Education with a minor in photography.
Tony has been an active member of his church, First Coast Christian Center, for 37 years. He has held roles as deacon, teacher and missionary.
He was employed as a full-time substitute teacher at Andrew Jackson High School from 1981-1983. From 1983 to 1986, he served as an elementary teacher at New Covenant Christian Academy. He then returned to Andrew Jackson in 1987, teaching Art, Photography and Videography, while also coaching the soccer, tennis and baseball teams until 1992.
Tony's extensive business and teaching background afford him a comprehensive understanding of both realms. His conservative principles have instilled in him a desire to take the lead in addressing the current challenges in education. His affection for Jacksonville, his cherished "Hometown" propels him to seek ways to serve the community and help provide students with the educational excellence they deserve as well as improve the working environment for teachers.
